Donations for the humane society:

From Monday, November 15th through Tuesday, November 23rd there will be  a box at the front door to collect donations for the Kent County Humane Society.

The following new or used items can be donated and are high need items:  Dog or cat toys, Gently used blankets or towels and Liquid laundry detergent.

Other items that are also needed and can be used include: Cat toys, Dry dog or cat food, Collars and leashes, Paper towels, Hand sanitizer, Liquid hand soap and Liquid dish soap.

When you donate and item, your name will be put in a drawing to win a donut breakfast and a bag of candy!

Thank you Sparta High School! During last month’s sock drive, 140 new pairs of socks were donated. They are going to Bethany Christan service center and will be distributed towards refugees, children with special needs, and foster care children. Your donations will be going to a great cause and it is greatly appreciated.

*Attention Cross Country Athletes:  Please turn in your clean uniform and warm- ups to coach Pfeffer or coach Smith ASAP

*Those students involved in the Spartan Mentor program are to meet on Friday, November 12th at 11 a.m., unless otherwise noted on your pass.  Be sure to meet at the location listed on your pass as well.

*Grand Valley State University will host an Open House for their College of Health Professions on Wednesday, November 17 from 6-8 pm.  It will take place at the Cook-DeVos center for Health Sciences in downtown Grand Rapids.  More information is available in the guidance office.

*Saturday at the Division 2 State Finals at MIS the boys cross country team ended their 2010 campaign with a 6th place finish running some amazing times.  Jake Gilman moved to fourth all-time on the school record board with a 16:16.  Brandon George moved to eighth all-time on the record board with a time of 16:24.  Adam Birkeland ran his PR running a 16:40 followed by A.J. Christafferson and Jake VerSluys who also ran his PR of 17:06.  The Spartans varsity was rounded out with Jonathon Delodder and Luke Bradford.  Congratulations guys on a great finish to your season!

*Saturday at the cross country state championship meet at Michigan Internation Speedway Alisha Reed represented the Lady Spartans with a time of 19:58.  Alisha placed 110th out of 257 runners.  Great season Alisha!

We will provide everything you need. Be ready to sing, dance, and act!
We will be casting Ridgeview age through adults. Students that are 4th grade and lower MUST have an adult auditioning or willing to work as stage crew for the show.

Interact is sponsoring a coat drive November 8- 12. We are accepting new and gently used coats. Coats can be turned in each morning, that week, in front of the office. Also, any student interested in joining Interact is invited to come to our next meeting Thursday November 4 at 7:30 AM in the Media Center.

BOWLING TRY-OUTS FOR BOYS AND GIRLS WILL BE HELD AT SPARTA LANES ON NOVEMBER 22 & NOVEMBER 23 @ 3:30 PM

Help make wounded soldiers and veterans fell better for Christmas.   Make them a card using only your first name. We have a box in the office for then, all cards will be going to Landstuhl Medical Center in Germany.  Last day to drop you card/cards off  December 3.

To those Athletic Council members who wish to attend the Sportsmanship Summit with Mr. Droski on Monday, November 8th, only ten members will be able to attend.  Be sure you pick up your early dismissal form from Mrs. Westcott as soon as possible…the first ten forms completed will be the athletes to attend the summit

Gobble Up Good Books Starts Monday 11/1.  Pick up your bookmark in the Library.  Read two books 100 page min each, write your name and book titles on the bookmark  and get your teachers to initial the bookmark.  Hand in the bookmark in the library and receive your back pack.  You can read as many books as you like for the month of November and each bookmark is your entry into winning an  Ipod Touch (32g)  or gift cards from Best Buy, Schuler books or Target. Tell the cashier that you support Sparta High School when you check out.  20% of what you spend comes back to the library to support Gobble Up Good Books.

a reminder for students that drive to school. A permit is required to park in the HS lot during the school day. When the lot is checked and a note is placed on your car, the spot is logged. Consequences for continuing to drive without a permit will follow.

Great news!  Beginning in November the first Tuesday night of the month for the next five months from 5PM-9PM will be dedicated as a Sparta Sports Boosters Night at our local Garden Patch Restaurant and Sports Arena.  Proceeds from sales will be donated back to the Sparta Sports Boosters.  The dates are as follows;   12/7/2010, 1/4/2011, 2/1/2011, 3/1/2011.

The Sparta Education Foundation is selling Calendars this fall!  Calendars feature: Student artwork, 75+ candid pictures, important school dates, district phone numbers, school building hours & drop-off times, plus much more information.    Calendars are only $10.00.  They are available at all school offices, farmers market on Wednesday nights, township offices and several local businesses.  Cash or checks payable to Sparta Ed. Foundation.

Seniors, please turn in a 2 x 3 vertical, shoulders-up shot by Friday, December 17. This image can be either a hard copy or a digital copy and can be dropped in the office or turned into VanDusen. Also, for $10, you have the OPTION of turning in a cute little snuggly baby picture of yourself."
